Interested in funding for clean buses?

The VW Mitigation Trust has $130 million in funds to replace older, high-polluting transit, school, and shuttle buses with new battery-electric or fuel-cell buses. Replacing an older bus with a zero-emission bus eliminates particulate matter and other pollutants that impact children and residents riding the buses, as well as residents throughout California communities. During the project’s 10-year period, approximately 425 vehicles will be replaced with an incentive amount of up to $400,000 per vehicle.

About VW Mitigation Trust

California VW Mitigation Trust

The purpose of the VW Environmental Mitigation Trust is to fully mitigate the excess NOx emissions caused by VW's actions. In California, that amounts to 10,000 tons of NOx that must be reduced. Implementing California's Beneficiary Mitigation Plan will fully mitigate the excess NOx and additionally commits to long-term air quality and climate goals by investing in zero-emission technologies. Funding for projects identified in the Plan is anticipated to begin in Fall 2019.

The mitigation plan for California contains a variety of funding categories that are listed below. Information about all funding categories will be discussed at the workgroup meetings.
